Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging
Celebrating Diversity and Promoting Equity at WHPS
At Woodland Hills Private School, diversity, equity, and inclusion are foundational pillars of our educational philosophy. Since our establishment, we have steadfastly committed to creating an equitable, progressive, and joyful learning environment that honors and celebrates the unique identities of our students, families, and staff. We are dedicated to addressing systemic racism while also joyfully celebrating culture and fostering kindness, equity, and inclusivity throughout our school community.
Our Dedication
-
Cultivating Equitable Curricula
We continually evaluate our curriculum to ensure that it reflects diverse perspectives and offers a comprehensive understanding of various cultures and experiences. This approach empowers our students to appreciate and learn from a wide range of voices and histories. Our resources are thoughtfully selected to be both developmentally appropriate and enriching.
-
Engaging with Families
We foster open and meaningful dialogue with our families, inviting them to actively engage in discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as in planning cultural celebrations and representation. These efforts broaden our students’ and our own horizons. We create opportunities for shared learning, growth, and collaboration through ongoing parent and community discussion series.
-
Creating Inclusive Spaces
We actively implement equitable practices and policies to ensure that all our students feel comfortable and safe and have a true sense of belonging. By cultivating inclusive environments, we foster a supportive community where every individual can thrive and flourish.
-
Decolonizing Learning Materials
We regularly review our library and learning materials to ensure they reflect a diverse range of perspectives and experiences. Our goal is to promote the decolonization of classrooms and libraries by expanding the narratives available to our students.
-
Anti-Bias Education
We prioritize anti-bias education and teaching about social justice (Social Justice Framework).
-
Ensuring Equity in Policies and Practices
We continuously examine our school's policies and practices to ensure equitable outcomes for all students, families, and staff. We strive to create a fair and inclusive environment where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.
-
Commitment to Growth
We remain dedicated to listening, learning, and evolving. Each year, we challenge ourselves to improve and enhance our efforts, striving to create an inclusive educational experience that empowers every member of our community.
Engagement Opportunities
-
Student Experience
We provide our students with enriching DEI&B experiences as part of their educational journey. In addition to developmentally appropriate classroom discussions and lessons, students have the opportunity to engage in school-wide monthly heritage celebrations and explore topics such as women's studies and ethnic studies.
-
Faculty and Staff Professional Development
We prioritize ongoing professional development for our dedicated faculty and staff. Through programs such as Responsive Classroom and anti-bias education, we equip our staff and community with tools to create inclusive and equitable learning environments.
-
