Physical Education & Athletics

WHPS Bears - Team Athletics

We are a member of the San Fernando Valley Independent Schools League. Students in grades three through five can join the WHPS Bears sports teams. We compete against other local independent schools. Some games are played here at WHPS. Other games may be hosted at the competing school or the Valley Soccer Center in Chatsworth. Home games are listed on the school calendar, and the practice and game schedules are provided to families at the beginning of each new season.

  • Basketball - Fall Season

  • Soccer - Winter Season

  • Volleyball - Spring Season

Cub Club

We offer Cub Club—an inclusive, non-competitive sports program for TK through second-grade students. Cub Club has the same coaches and follows the same sports seasons as our competitive teams, offering our youngest athletes an opportunity to develop foundational skills and teamwork in a supportive environment that paves the way for their future participation in WHPS Bears Team Athletics.

Physical Education (PE)

The PE Program is designed to be fun and engaging for children regardless of their skill level and is an integral part of our commitment to nurturing the holistic development of each child. Our program helps to instill a deep understanding of the significance of incorporating physical activity into daily life.

Through an innovative approach, students are guided through invigorating warm-up routines that enhance their strength and endurance. We emphasize a different sport each month, ranging from traditional sports such as soccer and field hockey to more imaginative games. Our program promotes physical abilities as well as creativity and adaptability. Engaging in a diverse array of activities, students refine their balance, agility, and coordination while cultivating invaluable attributes like collaboration and good sportsmanship. They learn the art of constructive feedback and encouragement, mastering both verbal and nonverbal communication.

Lower Elementary (TK-First Grade)
Our focus in the lower elementary grades is on nurturing foundational motor skills, balance, and teamwork. We achieve this through imaginative and enjoyable games that draw inspiration from the skill sets of traditional sports such as basketball, baseball, and soccer, creating a fun and engaging learning experience.

Upper Elementary (Second-Fifth Grade)
As students progress to the upper elementary grades, they embark on a heightened skill and knowledge journey. Advanced movement patterns and techniques are woven into warm-up routines, exhilarating games, and fitness challenges. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on developing reactivity, decision-making abilities, and teamwork—qualities that become increasingly pivotal as students get older.
